One of the best PlayStation emulators for Android, PSX4Droid, has been pulled from Android Market. Could the reason have anything to do with a certain PlayStation phone going on sale tomorrow? Read on for the official Google line.
Google contacted PSX4Droid’s author ZodTTD to say it was a case of “content policy violation,” and hence the app was being yanked. But the fact it’s taken eight months for Google to notice hints that it may be more to do with the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play hitting shelves tomorrow. The PlayStation Suite software is already going to be available for other Android handsets, so with emulators at large as well, the long-awaited Xperia Play could well struggle to find a USP, bar the controls.
Google denied it, merely putting out the statement: “We remove apps from Android Market that violate our policies.” Or that infect users’ handsets.
But don’t worry if you want to check out PlayStation games on your Android handset, the slightly inferior FPSe PlayStation emulator is still available on Market, not to mention apps that emulate the GameBoy and SNES.
