The Nintendo 3DS may have sold more in its first day than any Ninty console in history, but in Japan the Sony PSP is still managing to keep up. How is this possible, you ask? Read on for the full details.
In Japan last week the six year old Sony PSP sold almost as many units as the five week old Nintendo 3DS. Sales of the 3D console were down 10,000 week on week, to 50,710, while PSP sales were up from 22,911 to 50,479, according to Japanese gaming site Andriasang. That’s a difference of just 231 between the two handhelds.
The surge in PSP sales is likely due to the release of Final Fantasy IV Complete Collection, which outsold the next biggest game this week in the land of the rising sun by 67,000 units.
Still, it’s surprising nonetheless, and shows the power a big game can have. Sony NGP, we’re looking at you.
