You no longer have to pay extra to use your iPhone 4 as a Wi-Fi hotspot on another UK network, thanks to new data tariffs from O2. So now you can get online using your Wi-Fi only iPad, or even help a friend to do so, without paying a hefty price on top of your monthly bill.
As expected, O2 is letting you take advantage of the personal hotspot feature of iOS 4.3 by offering minutes and texts separate to data, so you choose your megabyte allowance on top of your calls and text messages.
The Basics is, as you’d expect, the entry level option, costing £3 a month (on top of your calls and texts) for 100MB. The All Rounder is £6 for 500MB, and The Works £10 for 1GB. The All Rounder and The Works also give you free access to all O2’s Wi-Fi hotspots.
Previously O2 customers would have had to add a bolt-on option to tether their iPhone with another device, so this is a welcome change for anyone stuck with a Wi-Fi only device like an iPad or iPod Touch, and no hotspot. UK network Three also allows tethering as part of your data allowance – now another player has joined in, hopefully the other carriers will soon stop double dipping for data charges on the iPhone as well.
Will you be going for one of the new tariffs? And if so, which one? Hit us up in the comments below.
