The Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) rollout to the Desire range could start as early as next month, courtesy of operator Three. So what will it add, and why’s it worth upgrading? Read on and all will be explained.

It could be as soon as late April that your HTC Desire, Desire HD or Desire Z will be running Android 2.3 (Gingerbread), Three announced via its Twitter feed today. So that means Near Field Communications (NFC) support, allowing you to make payments by touching your phone against a reader, like an Oyster card. The update will also be speedier than 2.2.

HTC announced at the end of February that Android 2.3 would be coming to the Desire range in the second quarter of the year, so that tallies. Though the tweet said the update would be late April or early May, so we may have a few weeks more to wait yet.

Surely the hardware needs to support NFC as well though? I didn’t think any of the Desire range did?

err wrong. The HTC Desire is NOT fitted with NFC hardware. What you should have pointed out is that users will get much much better Cut and Paste test editing..

When the HTC Desire HD 2 Release? I worried all this upgrade will make the phone slow as what i had experienced in my older HTC models…….
