The makers of today’s best iPhone apps entry, 8-bit Pocket Camera, hint pretty heavily at what they set out to do (“…take photos just like a certain retro video game camera from 1998!”) but we’ll come right out and say it: this app is basically a Gameboy camera stuffed into your iPhone…
That’s an odd if you think about it after we all spent so long banging on about how the iPhone needed a better camera. That “better camera” arrived with the iPhone 4 and now we’re buying apps to make it worse.
So what makes 8-Bit Pocket Camera worthy of 8-bit Pocket Camera worthy of inclusion in our best iPhone apps library if it takes such shoddy photos? Because it’s so damn fun and includes all the features you’ll remember from that “retro video game camera” they tip their hat to with blocky photos and janky effects all wrapped up in a nicely detailed grayscale package. For £0.59 it’s well worth checking out.
