If you’re reading Electricpig at work, we’re guessing it’s probably not for work. And that’s cool (Hi guys!). But have you ever wondered how much of a “cyber-slacker”, as psychology professor Tomas Chamorro-Premuzic dubs it, you are? He’s set up a simple questionnaire to help you find out – and perhaps even show that perusing Facebook at work is actually productive. Read on and take the test!
We’re used to a world where offices block Facebook and YouTube to stop people poking friends and looking at kitt-ehs, but Chamorro-Premuzic of Goldsmiths, University of London, thinks this might not be “the cause of unproductiveness, but its consequence.”
“It is quite interesting that people are spending so much time online instead of working,” the former Big Brother TV show psychologist tells us. “To me, this shows that people are not ‘utilised’ effectively enough, which suggests a wake-up call for managers and bosses.”
To find out, he’s running a survey to find out how much time people spend dawdling online at work, where, and how this matches up with different personality traits. If you’re feeling helpful – or bored – help him out by taking the test. Not only will you find out something about yourself, you might even contribute to an important advance in management science – and help bring down the Berlin Firewall on your office network.
