Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP
£2.99 | iTunes

Is it a game or is it a piece of interactive artwork? Well, maybe it’s both. Sword & Sworcery certainly clothes itself in the vestments of a game – there are puzzles and combat – but you’ll probably be more interested in simply exploring the unique, enthralling world that this pixel art adventure conjures up on your iPad. The visuals are stunningly beautiful and the music is glorious. If you have an iPad, you should probably make this your next App Store purchase.

Sky News
£Free | iTunes

One thing you won’t have to purchase, at least not while the current offer lasts, is the new app from Sky News. It’s free for a limited time and differs from most news apps in that it actually offers live feeds – yes, you can stream the Sky News TV channel in full screen (and rewind it if you wish) as well as access other live feeds of stories that aren’t even currently running on the channel. There are also graphics, charts and galleries to explore.

Fold-Man
£Free | iTunes

Remember that game you used to play at school? The one where you would draw part of a figure, fold over the paper to hide your contribution and pass it on to a friend to continue, then unfold the whole thing at the end and LOL heartily at the freakish creation? Well, this is that, on your iPad. There’s not a lot more to say about it really – but this being the 21st century, you can share your finished drawings via email, Facebook or Twitter.

Siege Towers For Two
£Free | iTunes

Shades of Angry Birds here, except you have to build a structure that can withstand a battering rather the other way round. You and an opponent are handed a randomised bunch of materials and given a few seconds to construct a siege tower. The two towers then lumber towards each other, cannons blazing, and battle it out until one is victorious. Simple physics-based stuff, but fun with a pal.

Angry Birds Rio HD
£1.79 | iTunes

Rovio’s steamroller of a series moves on with yet another edition of the physic-based puzzler. This time the irate featherballs are in Rio de Janeiro, where they’re attempting two free a pair of macaws that, and this is a bit odd, are the stars of an upcoming 20th Century Fox movie. There are 60 new levels, and for the first time in an Angry Birds game, a “spectacular boss fight” at the conclusion. As ever, Angry Birds makes for one the best iPad apps since it’s much easier to see the whole level at a zoomed out level.
