If you’ve become jealous of your iPad 2 touting comrades, a simple do-it-yourself hack will help level the playing field. Simply apply some glue and a few rare earth magnets to the side of your original iPad and your flashy new Smart Cover awaits — ready to find out more?
Within minutes of the iPad 2 unveiling, the Smart Cover became a “must-have” accessory – heck, we even thought it should be bundled with the iPad 2 in our review. Unfortunately, the original iPad was left in the dark since it lacked a magnetic edge. The crafty minds at therussiansusedapencil.com decided they’d had enough and wanted an immediate fix.
They began testing several different types of rare earth magnets until they finally settled on using block magnets which sit flush on the edge of the iPad. After working out some positioning issues they were ready to super glue the magnets. The good news is that super gluing the magnets is fairly easy to remove with a flathead screwdrivers and a very light tap of a hammer.
For those daring enough to try the DIY hack, your original iPad will never look better.
