Remember Richard Branson’s Project magazine? The one we haven’t heard much more than a peep out of since its launch? Well, if you were put off because you had to pay, you might want to take another look at Project. The debut had some technical problems, but the interactive Jeff Bridges cover looked slick, and now, thanks to a whopping great big sponsorship deal from American Express, Project magazine will be free for all, for the forseeable future.

Could this have something to so with the Apple subscription model? Branson’s sponsorship deal means that because he can give away Project magazine for free, he doesn’t have to give Apple its 30% cut.

‘…if you were put off because you had to pay…’ Who pays between £400 and £700 for an iPad but is too cheap to spend £1.80 a month on a magazine!? It’s a good magazine, far cheaper than your average store bought magazines which are now over £4.00!!

They still have major technical issues, which is why I never subscribed to the magazine.

Currently, if I go to the website on any device, I get an error, so there is no way to contact the company with a problem. If this is the case, why would anyone continue to pay for their subscriptions?

Hi Laserheart – Chris, Project’s deputy editor here. Sorry you’ve had problems getting on the website; it went down for a couple of hours yesterday just as we launched the new issue (amazing timing, as usual). But it’s back up now. You can also email support@projectmag.com, or on Twitter via @projectmag.
True, there were technical issues for some users on issue one – mainly a consequence of a new Apple iOS update being released on pretty much the same day. But we’ve spent the last few months making the app reader far more stable – and the imminent update should solve a lot of the problems. Hope this helps – and it hasn’t put you off trying us again.

Thanks for the helpful reply! I love the magazine, so I am hoping it continues to improve.
