Winamp for Android has hit version 1.0 bringing its usual blend of well-interfaced music playing with a nice bonus helping of free music downloads.
Android isn’t short of music players – what it is short of is decent music players. Windows stalwart Winamp has suffered thanks to the rise of iTune in the last few years but the move to Android has given teh mobile platform a rather good media player that can sync via wifi with the desktop version.
Winamp for Android just hit version 1.0 after a few months in beta and as well as a slightly tarted-up user interface it now comes with free music downloads courtesy of streaming site Spinner.com. Just hit the self-explanatory ‘Free Music’ button on the main screen and you can download a selection of free tracks from new bands.
The app also features ‘more info’ searches on artists, support for cvoice commands, several widgets and a player that will work with the phone’s lock screen.
