ipad votesA survey is currently underway (compliments of pcmag.com) which hopes to find out how many existing iPad owners will be upgrading to the new iPad 2. We must caution that these results are based on 5,309 votes and those surveyed did not verify ownership of the original iPad. With that being said, 92 percent will continue to ride high with Cupertino.

When Apple unveiled the iPad 2 on March 2nd, many in the tech community found the improvements modest — finding the iPad 2 to be evolutionary more than revolutionary. Much the same way the iPhone 3GS improved on the iPhone 3G, the iPad 2 did not deliver 4G connectivity or a Retina display. From an engineering standpoint, shedding 15 percent weight and 33 percent thickness while maintaining the same 10 hour battery life was significant.

92 percent of iPad owners will keep the original or buy the iPad 2

Based on the 5,309 votes from pcmag.com’s survey, 33 percent of current iPad owners plan to do nothing this Friday. Another 28 percent will hold tight while they wait for the iPad 3. So what percentage of iPad owners plan to purchase the iPad 2? 32 percent in total: 14 percent are selling their original iPad and 18 percent are keeping the original.

With all of the tablets announced at CES 2011, many are wondering how many iPad owners plan on jumping ship for the Xoom or Galaxy Tab 10.1. Surprisingly only 8 percent. With the remaining 92 percent of those surveyed either buying the iPad 2, waiting for the iPad 3 or just staying put with the original iPad, it appears Apple has very loyal customers.

More sheep who continue to fork out inflated prices for yesterday's technology. These sheep will part with their money as long as it is branded APPLE. In six months time these nerds will start Googling Android tablets to find out why technology has bypassed them. What is ICrap good for (even release 2)? No USB no card reader, total crap at multitasking. Why would anyone fork out money for this junk?

I've been using Apple products for over 10 years. I've currently got an iPhone 4, an iPad and a MacBook Pro not because I'm a sheep but because to me they are the best products to suit my needs. Keep your un-original close minded Apple bashing to yourself – you obviously don't know what you're talking about.

That’s a very crude way of putting it Boyers – while it’s not true of every Apple product, many people by them for the ease of use, good looks and software available. And in the iPad’s case, its frankly absurd battery life also applies.

As reviews editor here I’m privileged enough to test out a lot of tablets – I have no vested interests or reasons to be biased, but honestly, nothing has held a candle to the iPad. Nothing from Samsung and co is as good looking, smooth, easy to use, fun, and headache free. And for most people, that’s enough – it’s more than enough in fact, it’s the selling point, not USB host facility or proper mutlitasking rather than fast app switching.

If there is one thing that could rival the iPad, it’s the HP TouchPad. It is that impressive – of course, it faces an uphill struggle with Apple’s tablet backed by a thriving app store.

Far to many variables in that poll, it hasn't asked the right questions and never started with a baseline on the users it's asking?
