Stay with us now, as the waters of the Windows Phone 7 update muddy further still. First came the update that caused all the hassle for Samsung users, which was pulled, then re-upped, then pulled again, and is in the process of being sorted now. That was enough flip-flopping to confuse us, and now there’s news of the real update (the previous one was just a pre-update you see). If you’re still with us, read on for more info.

The first proper Windows Phone 7 update – codenamed NoDo – has been chalked up for next week, according to Paul Thurrott over at Windows IT Pro. NoDo brings copy and paste functionality, tweaked apps and an improved Marketplace search.

The update everyone is waiting for is Mango, which promises multitasking on Windows Phone 7, but Thurrott says that the Mango update will only be finalised by the end of the year, meaning it’s unlikely to hit handsets until early 2012. On the other hand, Engadget quotes Mary Jo Foley’s inside sources as saying that it can be expected as early as the autumn.

Whatever the schedule for the Windows Phone 7 Mango update, Microsoft will be hoping it goes more smoothly than the pre-update.

Can’t wait that long for multitasking? Shout out with your reaction to the Windows Phone 7 update schedule in the comments!

um this is a very missleading title as there is nothing in here regards actual dates and nothing that has not already been reported for a while now. The only new thing is that some guy said he thinks that wp7 big update is to much for MS to get out before the end of the year. tbh with waiting this long already i suspect they are right but some guys opinion is not fact or news.

So my Win 6.5 HD2 does multi tasking and “copy n paste” but Win 7 doesn't? Thanks for that .. I'll stick with the HD2 for now.

By the way O2 have FINALLY released the new ROM update for the HD2 .. the last of the networks to make 3.14 available.

its taking the pee now! i would have thought microsoft with all their power would be able to whip out updates on a weekly basis, not delay after delay…
starting to regret my purchase of a HD7 as theres just set back after set back. luckily im not in a contract, as i may be tempted by something else soon

I have to say I have been with microsoft for years and I am just about done with them! There is a reason apple has so many fans and that is they have a solid product. It may not be all the things I want but it is better than this. Wow! you would think they would have checked this out over and over to be sure it was going to go smooth! They had a great os to start with and gave it a bad name! Thats Microsoft!

Saying that neither of those updates have a definitive release date is the opposite of the updates being “dated.”

Thanks for the intentionally misleading headline. Hope you guys make your visit quota this month.
