These Olympus cameras just get toucher and tougher. Just weeks after the TG-610 broke cover, its successor, the Olympus TOUGH TG-810 is here, and not only is it harder than ever, it’s also packing some next-gen outdoor tech for your next excursion to the field. Read on for the full details.
Launched as the Stylus TOUGH 8010 in the states a month ago, we’ve now got some more info ahead of the UK launch. And top of our wishlist for the Olympus TOUGH TG-810 is the new navigational tech. A unique three sensor GPS records which way the camera is pointing, even when switched off, so should you find yourself up a mountain with the light fading, you’ll still be able to find your way back. Over 700,000 points of interest are stored on the camera, so you’ll be able to find the nearest garage, and showing latitude, longitude and air pressure at a glance, it’s like a weather station you can fit in your pocket.
A new sliding double lock mechanism and metal lens barrier means the Olympus TOUGH TG-810 is shockproof to two metres, freezeproof to -10 degrees Celsius, and waterproof to 10m – twice the depth of most waterproof cameras. A manometer shows you the pressure, so you don’t dive too deep. And there’s a great new feature that lets you take a pic just by tapping the camera – ideal when you’re underwater, or operating it in the cold with thick gloves.
The 14-megapixel sensor means you can print your shots at A3 with no drop in quality, and it’s crushproof to 100kg, so your fattest friend can sit on it without worries. And that nice silver or black finish? Scratch-resistant, so you don’t have to worry about your new camera taking a battering. Four underwater settings help you snap the fish without having to worry about blurred shots, it’s compatible with Eye-fi for wireless connectivity, and like the TG-610 it can shoot in 3D as well. The perfect marriage of brains and brawn.
