So iPad 2 is arriving later today, is it? Yawners. At least that’s what an alleged Apple source speaking to Cult of Mac would have us believe. Long-term Apple watcher and confirmed Steve Jobs fan (he wrote Inside Steve’s Brain), Leander Kahney, says an Apple source has slipped him some details about what to expect from the iPad 2 event and it’s just…OK.

He claims that MobileMe will get cloud features, iPad 2 will be a “ho-hum update…more of a speed bump than a redesign” and that “iPad 3 is the one to get excited about and it’s on track for release later this year”. Hmm…

Cult of Mac’s anonymous Apple staffer says MobileMe will store music, TV shows and films you’ve snaffled from the iTunes store and will potentially use some of the tech Apple bought when it swallowed up LaLa.

The whispering Applehead didn’t spill any details about iPad 2 but damped down expectations: “For the iPad 2 don’t get your hopes up too high. That’s all I’m going to say. They’ve had a number of problems along the way and the third-generation iPad is the one to make a song and dance about.”

Anyone remember when rumours suggested the original iPad would have a sky high price point? That allowed Steve Jobs to shock everyone with a seriously lower figure during the iPad announcement. Something tells us this iPad 2 expectation management will play right into Apple’s hands at the iPad 2 event later today. Hit the comments and let us know what you think: will the iPad 2 disappoint?

I don't know – with iPod sales dwindling, it would make sense in the long run to shift iPad launches to before Christmas.

This 'Apple Insider' couldn't be someone from the competition, desperate to dent the massive sales of the Ipad 2 by making us wait, or buy an Android tablet, could it…?
