News reaches us today that Steve Jobs was denied a knighthood. Why? Because he refused to speak at the Labour Party conference. In response, Gordon Brown gave him a political two fingered salute, and denied Jobs a knighthood.
The Telegraph scooped the story in an interview with a former senior Labour MP. It said that Steve Jobs was put forward for the honour by the MP for services to technology, but that Jobs didn’t make it through despite Bill Gates getting an honourary knighthood in 2005.
The Telegraph’s source said that Jobs was denied because he’d turned down Gordon Brown’s speaking invite to the Labour Party Conference. It’s not been revealed why Jobs refused, although it seems pretty plausible that Jobs took one look at the state of British politics and didn’t want to touch it with a barge pole.
Jobs reportedly got to the final stages of the knighthood selection process, but failed to get through to claim a knighthood because the proposal was blocked by Downing Street.
Petty or perfect zing? Was Gordon Brown right to deny Jobs a knighthood? Shout out in the comments!
