The CTIA Wireless expo set to take place this March could be the stomping grounds for the upcoming 8.9 inch Samsung Galaxy Tab. Samsung Mobile began sending out invites for a March 22nd event in Orlando, Florida this morning, creating quite the Internet buzz. The invite asks “what’s your tab life” with the code 78910 beneath.
The code 78910 is likely related to Samsung’s tablet line up: the original 7-inch Galaxy Tab, the unannounced 8.9 inch model and the 10.1 inch flagship. Last week we received word from the Korean outfit Yonhap News Agency which reported a Samsung spokesman revealed plans for a medium-sized Galaxy Tab. 8.9-inches would certainly fit the bill.
So what would the 8.9-inch Galaxy Tab include? Well, as a medium-sized Galaxy Tab we expect to see most of the improvements of the 10.1 Galaxy Tab. The original 7-inch Tab is dated, a dual-core processor should be expected along with a camera upgrade. It would be nice if the Galaxy Tab 10.1 and Galaxy Tab 8.9 only differed in screen size, but we’d expect Samsung would like to differentiate the products a bit more.
There are certainly other possibilities for the March 22nd event. Namely, Samsung may finally refresh the 7-inch Galaxy Tab or at the very least roll out an Android 3.0 Honeycomb update. It would be very interesting to see how the original Samsung Galaxy Tab handled the latest build of Android. One thing is clear, it would certainly extend the shelf life of its inaugural tablet.
The date is set, March 22nd we see the future of Samsung tablets. It seems like only yesterday CES and MWC wrapped up and now the buzz is building for CTIA Wireless. You’ll get all the news from it right here.
