Instructables

I’m really quite late to this one, but then I figured that if I was so oblivious to this incredible crowdsourced DIY database, others might be too. It’s an amazing resource showing you how to do everything from
the mundane and essential to the frivolous and fun. And yes, that does include making your own playable Angry Birds cake. My current favourite: how to make your own creme eggs.

Like Punk Never Happened

This is the sort of things blogs should be used for: posting every single issue of Smash Hits on the 30th anniversary of its publication. This week’s issue, from February 1981, features Ultravox on the cover, and a Flickr album of the issue lets you read every article on every page, and look at the dodgy pre-Photoshop pictures. What other mags would you like to see get the “Like Punk Never Happened” treatment?

Fonts In Use

Typography is one of my little obsessions and Fonts In Use is brilliant showing your what typefaces are being used by big brands and major products. Want to know what font The Daily is using and why? Fonts In Use will tell you in a really entertaining way.

Protoboxes

That console under your TV? It’s led a series of double lives. Design changes, feature alterations and hardware tweaks mean they often looked very different before they hit store shelves. See their evolution, and how they reached the form you currently know and love.

How It Should Have Ended

Frustrated by how a Hollywood movie ended? Try the animations at How It Should Have Ended that give you synopsised and joke-filled versions of blockbusters. Our favourite is The Social Network: How It Should Have Ended which you can see below:
