Sony and police raid PS3 jailbreaker’s homeThe war between Sony and the PS3 hacking community continues. According to Crunchgear, notorious PS3 hacker graf_chokolo has been dealt the wrath of Sony’s legal team. Police raided his home this morning in tandem with Sony, seizing his PS3 console and accounts. As Sony moves to the offensive, graf_chokolo is being used as an example of what risks may come with a PS3 hacking.

Over on grafchokolo.com, the words were very clear, “Guys, do not contact me anymore because SONY got me. They have all my stuff and accounts now, so be careful”. According to the thread, graf-chokolo was able to upload all of the critical files related to his PS3 hacking despite the seizures. Even more surprising were the commentors, who showed more concern for the files than the well being of their comrade, but such is the trade.

Sony is taking the bull by the horns to combat piracy. Yesterday we uncovered the company’s plans to release a new 300GB slim unhackable PS3 and today they began the raids. These raids were the result of their anti-piracy special forces unit. Sony looks to be taking the necessary steps, but is it actually working?

The sweet sound of success resonated within hours. Fellow PS3 hacker Mathieulh shut down ps3wiki and quit the scene after learning graf_chokolo’s fait. We’ll be monitoring Sony’s anti-piracy campaign very closely over the coming weeks as we expect Sony to make serious headway.

havn't you seen the adverts? These hackers are obviously at the head of a major pirating ring, as such they are using the money to help fund drug running, people smuggling and political coruption!

Everyone knows that at the head of all organised crime syndicates is a geeky guy with a PS3! have you never seen the MOD-father??

I'm so pleased my tax is helping out multi billion dollar companies and not going towards the NHS, the public sector or much needed public resources.

We all can sleep safe at night knowing that the evil incarnate graf_chokolo is jailed. The evil genius that he is.

It's not your tax … this happened in Germany.

So, reading between the lines. Sony is clearly worried about the hack given they are persuing legal routes, and now expect us to buy a new unhackable version of the Sony. I read this to mean that they are unable to stop the hack with their current hardware.

I don't buy many games, but when I do I'm happy to pay for them, however when you look at a game on a console costing £50 and the same game on a PC costing less than £30 it makes you wonder why should I pay a premium to get a game in a different format. The word of piracy forced PC games to be cheaper, you also get a lot more extra physical content thrown in for just afew pounds more. Want ectra stuff or a limited edition version on a console and you can spend over £100 and get a cheap remote controled car!

Sony are the creators of their own problem, by ripping off the public they have created a huge, yet so far silent, market for any hack. Now its out there Sony are going to find it hard to stop it. Better off dropping game prices and giving the public value for money rather than strongarming them. All that will happen in the long runis the hack will still succedd and Sony will have a PR nightmare.

From this very day, I will NEVER buy ANYTHING with Sony logo on it (used to buy a lot).
I will ALWAYS tell this story to discourage people from buying ANYTHING Sony.
Well, it's a pity, but I am a Sony hater from now on …..
