Try to buy MobileMe. Go on. Head to the Apple Store website and give it a go. It seems Apple has stopped selling subscriptions to MobileMe entirely. The 60 day free trial is still on offer, but try as we might, we’re unable to slap down the credit card and grab a full price subscription.
What’s more, MobileMe seems to have been erased from store listings. We can’t see it anywhere, even under the master list of Apple Software. Is it a web bug, or has Apple yanked MobileMe from sale ahead of next week’s iPad 2 launch?
The temptation to speculate is huge. MobileMe’s services are most relevant to the iPad and iPhone, offering tracking services, remote locking and wiping, as well as synced calendars, e-mail and bookmarks. Is Apple preparing to unleash MobileMe’s services gratis to anyone owning an iPad or iPhone?
To guess would be too bold. But we’d say it looks like a possibility. If Apple offers MobileMe for free, we’d also hope there’s some new functionality built in. What’re you hoping for?
