Oh man. The new MacBook Pro laptop models we’re expecting to be unveiled any day now are starting to look seriously exciting. A sneaky pic of what would appear to be a new specced number has just hit the web – confused by the new look ports on the side? Allow us to explain what they mean for you.
Two European blogs, fscklog and MacBidouille, have just published supposed specs and the latter a snap shot of the side of a 13-inch new MacBook Pro too. We’re told that the model will have SDXC memory card support, 4GB of DDR3 RAM, a second gen Intel Core i5 2.3GHz processor, and most intriguingly, “Thunderbolt” support.
What’s “Thunderbolt”, we hear you ask? Supposedly, it’s Apple’s name for the connection tech Intel’s been working on under the name Light Peak – a stunningly fast (10GBps) replacement for USB ports and the like.
Apple has long been rumoured to have had a guiding hand in its creation, and Intel is expected to show Light Peak to journalists in San Francisco tomorrow, so the timing seems to be more than opportune – and its presence on the leaked shot is indicated by the little lightning bolt sign.
New MacBook Pro: Five things we want!
Add to that a supposed leaked Apple icon for Thunderbolt that both sites have published, and well, you have a seriously tasty new MacBook Pro rumour.
Interestingly, the new MacBook Pro specs make no mention of a solid state drive for the OS X installation, another rumour we’ve seen recently – and it looks like there won’t be any external Nvidia graphics in the 13-inch model at all. But hey, if these Light Peak shenanigans go down like we expect, we still can’t wait. Can you?
