HTC outed the HTC Incredible S, a 4-inch smartphone related to the American HTC Incredible that will be making its way to our shores in Q2 this year. But how does it stack up next to the 4.3-inch next-gen beauty, the Samsung Galaxy S 2? Read on for the head to head between the Samsung Galaxy S 2 and HTC Incredible S. Can the HTC Incredible S live up to its bombastic title?

Screen
The Samsung Galaxy S 2 has a blindingly bright screen, one that we thought offered up some real competition to the iPhone 4. It uses Super AMOLED plus tech, one step up from the Samsung Galaxy S. It’s a 4.3-inch screen, which makes it the biggest screen on a Samsung smartphone ever.

The HTC Incredible S has a 4-inch touchscreen, with 480 x 800 resolution. There’s no super AMOLED here though, so it won’t be as eye-poppingly bright as the Samsung Galaxy S 2.

Operating system
The Samsung Galaxy S 2 will be hitting the shelves with Android Gingerbread. The HTC Incredible S will be hitting the shelves with Froyo, although HTC is promising a Gingerbread upgrade. While that should put these two on a par, the typical time scale for upgrade roll outs means that if you plump for the HTC Incredible S, you’ll probably be waiting months for the upgrade, as UK networks have to run comprehensive testing of upgrades to make sure they don’t disrupt the network.

Under the hood
The HTC Incredible boasts a 1GHz processor, plus 768MB of RAM and 1.1GB of built in storage which is expandable using a microSD card. The Samsung Galaxy S 2 has a Samsung dual core processor, 1GB RAM, and comes in two models: 16GB or 32GB with a microSD slot that’s expandable too. On top of this impressive set of stats, the Samsung Galaxy S 2 also has NFC tech like the Google Nexus S, which means that you could be paying for stuff with your smartphone in the near future.

Verdict
Both this phones are lookers: the rubberised body of the HTC Incredible S is tactile and shapely, but the slimmed down and squared off Samsung Galaxy S 2 is gorgeous too. However, the Samsaung Galaxy S 2 wins this round, for its dual core processor, super sized RAM and NFC tech, and also for the extra resolution on the HD video recording. We’re also loathe to plump for a high end smartphone that won’t pop through the letterbox with Gingerbread already installed, and have seen too many delayed upgrades to take the risk on a Froyo smartphone.
