whilst I admire your ingenuity I personally don't think you should be teaching your son that food is to be played with in this way.

Oh why not play with your food once in a while? Birthdays are special and it looks like this father and son are great friends as well as family. I don’t imagine it will hurt the 6 year old much and if Dad is willing to pick up the mess, I think it’s fine.
