The HP Veer maybe the lowest spec of the new webOS wonder trio, but it’s every bit as impressive as the HP TouchPad and HP Pre 3. Chiefly, because it’s so unbelievably small.
A spiritual successor to the tiny QWERTY Palm Pixi, the HP Veer keeps the Pre’s sliding keyboard form factor, and shrinks it down to an almost molecular level. The 2.57-inch screen is just on the threshold of being large enough to actually do or read anything, and its 320×400 resolution looks perfectly shaper on it. The keyboard too is surprisingly usable, and the lip isn’t shaper, thankfully, one of the problems we’ve always had with Palm Pre phones.
We were also surprised to see just how powerful the HP Veer is, considering the Pixi’s sluggish performance. The 800MHz processor inside was more thank apable of keeping 20 apps open while burning through Need For Speed (We tried and counted for you), so it should get the job done in most day to day scenarios. Whether we can live without a dedicated 3.5mm audio port (an adaptor is required) is another matter, but we’ll see when we get a HP Veer review unit in due course.
Check out the hands on pics right here and look out for the HP Veer in the Spring.
