Samsung Galaxy S Wi-Fi 5.0: Ultimate iPod touch rival

What’s the Samsung Galaxy S Wi-Fi 5.0, you ask? Only a 5-inch, Wi-Fi only version of the Samsung Galaxy S phone, it would seem. It’s leaked out early at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona – can anyone say iPod touch killer?

It’s not live on Samsung’s MWC 2011 press site yet, and we’ve had no details from company spokespeople we contacted, but the Samsung Galaxy S Wi-Fi 5.0 is sitting pretty on Samsung’s official Picasa page, and it looks like a beautiful follow up to the Samsung Galaxy Player PMP.

Best Android apps of all time: Top 100

Based on the leaked photos, the Samsung Galaxy S Wi-Fi 5.0 appears to rock the more square design of the Samsung Galaxy S 2 phone, while potentially packing in a 5-inch screen. The white case appears to house a HDMI port and microSD slot, and crucially it would appear to have Google certification, so Google Maps, Gmail and the Android Market should all be present.

It does however look like the Samsung Galaxy S Wi-Fi 5.0 is running Android 2.2 or lower, rather than 2.3, based on the notification bar at the top. Still, given Samsung’s solid media format support in its Android devices, we reckon it’ll make quite the iPod touch rival. Expect an official announcement imminently.
