RIM clearly doesn’t fancy being outdone by the forthcoming stream of new Android Honeycomb tablets and a certain iPad 2. So it’s just confirmed it’s working on two more versions of its awesome PlayBook, one rocking LTE, the other HSPA+. Read on for for the full skinny.

The two new versions follow a WiMAX BlackBerry 4G PlayBook, which was outed with some fanfare back at CES last month. RIM is clearly hoping that LTE and HSPA+ models will help it cover all 4G bases across the pond, while us Brits get to play with what now seems like the resolutely old-school original BlackBerry PlayBook.

RIM Big Cheese Mike Lazaridis reckons these new 4G PlayBooks will offer an, “…unparalleled mobile experience.” It’s hard to believe that with all the hype and constant stream of releases, the PlayBook still isn’t on shelves yet.

Is RIM offering too many versions of its as-yet-unreleased PlayBook? Hie up the comments section now and let us know.
