Google is changing the way it hires, streamlining its off the wall interview process into a simpler, shorter process. Why? Because Google is going on a hiring binge, and wants to recruit “well over” the 6,700 it hired in its biggest year ever, 2007. The upshot though, is that it just got a little bit easier to get into Google. Read on to find out more.

Google will be reducing the number of oddball questions it asks, and the number of interviews any one candidate can go through, in an attempt to hire folks with a more entrepreneurial than intellectual bent.

Questions previously included “why is a manhole cover round?” and, “how many ping-pong balls does it take to fill an aeroplane?”, according to Laszlo Bock, head of human resources at Google.

Now, you won’t ever have more than five interviews with Google, which still sounds a lot, but previously a whopping 12-14 interviews would be the norm.
