Gears of War 3 on PS3? Don’t bet on it. Epic Games Design Director Cliff Blezsinski told us just days ago it’s not “going to happen anytime soon.” Read on to find out why.

Last week we got the chance to talk to Cliff Bleszinski about his newest co-project Bulletstorm, and much more. Among the topics discussed was the possibility of Gears of War ever appearing on PlayStation. Not. Gonna. Happen.

“I don’t think it’s going to happen anytime soon,” Bleszinski told us.

There are some who still haven’t given up hope of Gears of War ever releasing on PS3, but Microsoft’s Gears of War exclusivity deal was obviously too good to resist.

“I think our current set with Microsoft dictates that for us internally it makes more sense for Gears to remain a 360 franchise for the foreseeable future…plus I don’t like the PlayStation 3 controller.”

Controller jokes aside, if you want to play Gears of War 3 this console generation, get an Xbox 360.

    Thank God! I picked up a 360 to play the games I couldn't play on the PS3 and a friend of mine and I just finished Gears 2 after starting it about 6 months ago.

    It was one of the worst games I played EVER. Bad controls, bad movement, long (and not in a good way), bad story. I can't believe the positive reviews this game got. I'm not even bothering to play Gears 1 and wish I never bought that either. Sorry, but Killzone 2 was a MUCH better experience all the way around. I just wish KZ2 had co-op.

      Really? I prefer my PS3 but I loved Gears of War 2. Completely OTT with fun action sequences – I didn't find any of the control stickiness that plagues poor third person shooters. Plus it looked amazing.

      are you mad? i bought a PS3 just so i could play Killzone 2 and i've never been so disappointed by a videogame. Boring level design, only being allowed one decent gun at any time thanks to an undroppable pistol, enemies with a jedi-like ability to throw grenades 50 yards and land them directly at your feet over and over again, infinite enemy respawns in the latter stages, the most foul mouthed NPC's i've ever encountered, monotonous grey and brown colour scheme throughout, not to mention the insane difficulty spikes at certain points in the game combined to make one of the worst gaming experiences i've played in a long time. If any game has an overinflated metacritic score it is killzone 2, most likely caused by the official Playstation mags so desperate to have a blockbuster FPS in their corner.

      Gears 2 may not be the greatest game ever created but it is very good fun and i enjoyed it all the way through. I definitely think it is worthy of a higher review score than Killzone 2 anyway. I also agree with Cliff B that PS3 controllers are rubbish.

        I see thay you are a fanboy of xbox and mb you should just read the comments and stay quiet instead of posting stupid comments like that!!! KZ2 was awesome btw and it also had better graphics thank Gears 2. i played gears 2 and it was meh…

          so as per usual, by voicing an opinion i am branded a 'fan boy' by idiots like you. If you bothered to read my post i said i have an xbox and a PS3, but this isn't about which console is better, this is about Killzone 2 and Gears of War 2. Unlike you, i actually bothered to explain why i thought Killzone was disappointing and either you played a different version of the game to me, or you are prepared to overlook horrible design choices and/or are a lot more easily pleased.

          I also didn't say that i thought Gears 2 was the best game ever made, i just said that i preferred it to Killzone because it was more enjoyable. If you think Killzone has better graphics then fine. I don't personally agree with you but you are entitled to your opinion.

          And in reply to Mark, i was commenting on Fr3lncer's post which most certainly did talk about Killzone?! so please don't tell me to 'stay relevant or get out' if you can't actually read yourself.

        First off the guy you replied to said nothing about Killzone so I'm not sure why you sounded off on that, but in the defense of Killzone, it was amazing. It looked amazing, controls were great and had a decent storyline. Honestly stay relevent to the topic or get out.

        For everyone else I do not agree with the controller statement, and that is disappointing that Gears isn't coming to PS3. He said “in the foreseeable future” so maybe down the line. I am probably over thinking this but I have been lied to by a developer before.
        Yea I'm looking at you David Jaffe!

          The guy he replied too said killzone was better or am I misreading it?

          Personally I preferred gears, but probably because I never finished kz, I didn't get on with controls and wasn't too fussed on the overall bland colour scheme. I appreciate it is based as part of a war and you wouldn't expect brighter colours but still

    Publishers take the risk when publishing games, so usually – the developer gets paid upfront, and then not until the publisher has recouped ALL losses do the devs start getting money from the sales of the game. Beyond that, even when the devs DO start getting funds from sales, they usually get a very small percentage compared to the publisher… because (again) the publisher is the one taking the financial risk… but in the case of Gears, Epic gets roughly 3 times (300%) the normal allocation per copy sold (after loss recouperation), so Epic would have to sell THREE TIMES as many units to make it worth bringing to another platform, and that won't happen by releasing it on the PS3… they'd be lucky to get a 60% bump in sales by bringing it to the PS3.

    Meh, who cares. Killzone 3 is out in a few weeks. Killzone2 trampled all over Gears 2, and Killzone 3 is a full generation ahead of what Xbox owners are suffering with same-old unreal engine generic shooters like Gears.
