The Canon EOS 1100D DSLR has been outed today alongside the new Canon EOS 600D, and it’s pitched as the perfect novice big boy shooter. Inside is a 12.2 megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor, with 9-point auto focus and the ability to shoot 720p HD video, and you can apply various filters on the fly using Basic+ and Creative Auto modes, to give that in vogue Instagram effect to photos which aren’t rubbish to begin with.

As for whether the Canon EOS 1100D DSLR is indeed the perfect entry level model, you’ll have to sit tight until our full review. The Canon EOS 1100D DSLR is out in April, priced up at £459.

I caught these on Engadget (US) this morning… Why is the 1100D refered to as the Rebel T3 and the 600D as the Rebel T3i in the US but not in the UK? Something else I find strange is that the lower spec DSLR has a higher model number (1100D) whilst the higher spec DSLR has a lower model number (600D)

Canon uses different branding in the US, it's done so for several years. Afraid we can't tell you what arcane method Canon uses to pick its numbering, but Canon's not alone at any rate. Nikon reserves its lowest number for its finest, most expensive models, like the £4,000 Nikon D3s.
