The “Daily Show with Jon Stewart” and “The Colbert Report” are making a return to popular streaming service Hulu, according to Viacom. The company also confirmed Jersey Shore, Teen Mom 2 and Manswers, will be making debuts as part of the deal.
Last year Viacom pulled the plug on the two shows after disputes over programming fees. Today, a new deal finalized which solidifies their return, although no details on the financial terms were announced.
Hulu’s ad-supported online video service has gained quite a following in the US. Unfortunately, video rights for playback on devices such as the PS3, GoogleTV and even smartphones forced the website to launch their paid, Hulu Plus service in November.
Despite the monthly fee, the service still enforces ads and instead justifies the cost based on additional content and device playback support. With the overwhelming success of Netflix in the US, the need for additional content on Hulu Plus is essential. Hopefully today’s announcement is one of many. Still no word on whether we’ll see Hulu make its UK debut in 2011…
