Braid

£1.19 | Mac App Store

Braid has already been a stonking success on PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 but in its Mac App Store incarnation it definitely deserves a place in our best Mac apps list. The time twisting puzzle adventure game is a near-perfect pick up and play puzzler for playing inbetween less interesting tasks. It’s also on sale right now and a steal at £1.19.

djay

£29.99 | Mac App Store

At a penny shy of £30, djay might seem a bit pricey but the app is a full on virtual DJ setup which takes your iTunes library and makes it into virtual vinyl with two turntables and a range of easy to use controls, transitions and effects. Definitely one of the best Mac apps in the Music category we’ve seen so far.

Ulysses

£17.99 | Mac App Store

If you’re working on a big project, a normal word processor can seem a bit limited. On the other hand, most scriptwriting software is insanely expensive. Ulysses is a great compromise giving you the ability to work on multiple documents in tabs and save those as part of a coherent project. You can then export the individual documents or combine them.

Courier

£5.99 | Mac App Store

This was among our early selections of the best Mac apps but it has had a number of bug fixes since and is a much more stable app for it. With a beautiful UI metaphor (it uses stamps for services to upload to and envelopes to contain the files you’re uploading), Courier is the best Mac app for flinging files onto the web we’ve ever used.

Trillian

£free | Mac App Store

Trillian has popped up in its iOS form in our best iPhone apps columns and its best Mac apps incarnation is just as good. The Trillian desktop app supports Facebook Chat, Windows Live, Twitter, GTalk, AIM, Yahoo and more. It syncs well with the iOS app and is a lot more stable than many other IM apps. Definitely worth a download.
