Microsoft has steamed into the battle over H.264 raging between Apple and Google and it’s on the fruity side of the fight. First Microsoft released a blog post that made it clear that it supports continued love for H.264 and does not want to move to Google’s WebM video standard instead.
Microsoft says it’ll support third party WebM plugins but it won’t be baking that in itself. And it’s gone even further: Microsoft is releasing a plug-in for Google Chrome for Windows that will put H.264 support back in. The fight is on and WebM’s warrior force is looking decidedly small.
