We’re live from the Nintendo 3DS launch event in Amsterdam today, getting the latest on launch titles, trying them out, and chinwagging with execs from the company. It’s also one strange locale, with Nintendo 3DS models chained to both tables and, er, women. Click the pic and jump through to see our gallery of the Nintendo 3DS event in photos.

Nintendo 3DS: Mii avatars

Categories: Gaming    Tags: , ,

The Nintendo 3DS will carry the Mii Maker to build your own avatar. With Mii make you can either import Mii characters you’ve already lovingly crafted on your Wii, or (and we prefer this option) you can use the camera built into the Nintendo 3DS to take a picture of yourself which will then be transformed into a Nintendo 3DS Mii. The Mii Maker works by using the camera to automatically create a Mii which you can then edit from there. To the left you’ll see the Mii avatar of Ninty boss Saturo Iwata. Your Mii is not just an avatar either: Mii will be shared via StreetPass and will let you play FaceRaisers, an AR shooting game. You can also save the Mii to an SD card as an image, and from there you can use it in the same way as any other digital photo.

UPDATE: The Nintendo 3DS is up on Game.co.uk for pre-order in both shades at £229.99.

The Nintendo 3DS UK price hasn’t been officially revealed with Nintendo saying that retailers will set their price points based on their recommended retail price. However, we just overheard a Nintendo staffer (the Nintendo staff badge was a big clue) telling a contact that the Nintendo 3DS UK price will be around £229 and that there will be “special deals” done. Of course, his information could be duff but we reckon that’s a good shout as we’ve heard from a source within a major retailer that he’s been quoted that price too – although Play.com is now listing it for £219.99. Click the headline and let us know, would you pay £229 for the Nintendo 3DS?

As well as 25 launch titles there’ll also be some one minute Aardman shorts, plus, and this is the big one, Sky 3D and Eurosport content. The Nintendo 3DS content from Sky will be short form, and is the first time that Sky has offered any of its content in glasses free 3D. Eurosport will also be bringing 3D sports coverage to the Nintendo 3DS. The Eurosport Nintendo 3DS link up is a two year deal that’ll also see Eurosport doing some heavy handed promotion for the Nintendo 3DS.
