3D printing is supposed to revolutionise all sorts of areas of our lives, but this service seems more likely to terrorise. Just a few clicks away, waiting to be printed into life is a nightmarish 7-10cm real life model of you. How would you like this to slip through the letterbox on a Monday morning?

The 3D mini-me’s are printed by a company called Sculpteo, who take two photos of you – one from the front and one in profile, and then convert this into a digital 3D printed model, which you add colour to and customise. Sculpteo promise to deliver it in six working days.

To give your partner a proper fright on Valentine’s Day, why not order a special Valentine’s couple model? Nothing says romance like a 3D printed model of you and your partner, bonded together in eternity with digitally manipulated clay.

The horror doesn’t stop here though – Scuplteo has plans to extend the service to smartphone photogarphs, meaning we’ll be innocently replicating these tiny monsters with the phones in our hands. First the cities will be overrun, and then they’ll take the roads, and soon, there won’t be any room for the real versions of these printed avatars at all.
