Ricoh has announced the Ricoh CX5 today, the successor in the CX series. It’s a sleek, tidy compact with a 10.7x optical zoom, 10MP sensor and ramped up autofocus speed for faster snapping. Ricoh’s improved autofocus speed brings times down to 0.2secs and can push 5 frames per second, in a best case scenario when using 28mm wide-angle or telephoto lens at 300mm. That’s almost double the speed of the Ricoh CX4, and s rooted in the Ricoh hybrid AF system.

As well as the speedy AF on the Ricoh CX5, there’s also a super-resolution setting, and s super resolution zoom mode, for shooting at up to a 600mm equivalent. It also has macro mode shooting, and of the 14 scene modes, new modes for the Ricoh CX5 include cooking, fireworks, and the curious sounding “continuous golf swing” scene modes.

The Ricoh CX5 has a 3″ LCD, plus HDMI output, and comes  in three colours: black, pink or silver.

Out 26 January | £260 | Ricoh
