Facebook plans to allow third party apps and sites access to your email address and telephone number have been put on ice after warnings from security experts pointed out the juicy pickings they’d be offering for rogue developers. But could it still make a return?

The reason that Facebook is hesitating over the decision isn’t because it has realised a fundamental problem with selling or sharing your information, it’s because they need a better way of pointing out to users when they’re about to allow third parties access to their information. As it stands, the plans are on “temporary hold”.

Facebook’s Douglas Purdy said on the Facebook Developer’s Blog: “Over the weekend, we got some useful feedback that we could make people more clearly aware of when they are granting access to this data. We agree, and we are making changes to help ensure you only share this information when you intend to do so.”

Do you think this feature should be permanently disabled? Is it just another erosion of our privacy from Facebook?
