Remember the Tiger Woods unpleasantness last year? Well it seems EA does too pushing the title character of Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12 to the background on its cover. The cover features the yellow flag at Augusta with the silhouette of a golfer, presumably Tiger Woods, far in the distance…
Tiger Woods remains a playable character in Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12 and will be on the cover of the PS3 Collector’s Edition but it seems odd that he’s taken a back seat on the main cover. Tiger Woods and EA teamed up back in 1999 but sales of the games dropped by nearly 60% last year in the aftermath of the sex scandal (though the global economic downturn was doubtless a factor too).
EA Sports President, Peter Moore, says there has been no snub by not featuring Tiger Woods on the game cover: “If the insinuation is it’s a reflection of EA Sports backing away from its relationship with Tiger, that’s not the case whatsoever.” EA says gamers shouldn’t “read anything” into the decision but what do you think? Has Tiger been toned down for fear of negative associations?
