OK, the idea of golf may not scream excitement, but Real Golf 2011 HD is definitely one of the best Nokia apps currently available for passing the time on the bus. It looks absolutely stunning, with graphics that wouldn’t appear out of place on a Sony PSP, and the gameplay is also completely addictive. As with golf itself, this game is all about timing – stop the swing at the right point, and it’ll hopefully go somewhere in the right direction. Get it wrong, and you’ll be digging yourself out of a bunker!

In Nokia Loop, you’ll have an app that’s capable of annoying just about everybody you know, while at the same time showing off your creative side. Use everyday sounds to create your own music, looping bangs, knocks, taps, dog barks and any other sounds into a beat, until you’ve driven your nearest and dearest to distraction. It’s another great Nokia app.

Context awareness is where it’s at for future smartphone apps, and Nokia Situations marks the first step in this direction. Situations knows where you are, what time it is, and can launch apps or change your Nokia depending on your situation (see what they did there?!) – almost exactly like Tasker does for Android phones.
Change between profiles depending on the time of day, for instance, launch a shortcut to the football results at 5pm every Saturday, or launch Ovi Maps automatically as soon as you step outside and into a different network cell. The possibilities are pretty much endless. Clever, subtle and incredibly helpful, Nokia Situations really is one of the best Nokia apps.

Our favourite game is back once again with a host of new challenging levels. Granted, it may be a bit late to count down the 25 days until Christmas, and we may be sick to the back teeth of snow, but Angry Birds is definitely still more addictive than coffee, and it remains one of the best Nokia apps ever. You’ll just have to wait 328 days for the next Christmas countdown!

Symbian 3 users now get pinch to zoom, and you’ll be able to customise your Ovi Maps menu with the features that matter most to you. We also like the inclusion of transit lines – letting you see the exact route taken by the London Underground, and plan your trips accordingly. One of the best Nokia apps? Without a doubt, and one of the finest smartphone apps full stop.
