Powered by Android 2.2 Froyo, the Samsung Galaxy Tab will drop the 3G radios in favor of a WiFi-only edition early this year. According to a press release from Samsung Mobile, the Galaxy Tab WiFi edition will be arriving in the US in the first quarter of 2011.
You’ve read our review, you know our thoughts and by now you are well versed on the Galaxy Tab. Like the existing model, the WiFi-only version runs Android 2.2 and features the same seven inch display running at WSVGA resolution (1024 x 600 pixel). The 16GB of internal storage and microSD slot for up to 32GB of additional storage is also a go.
The difference this time around (other than the loss of 3G radios) with the Samsung Galaxy Tab is Samsung’s recent agreement with CBS to add content to their Media Hub. With TV episodes available for just $1.99 on the digital media player and computer, including next day programming, Samsung now has more to leverage in the media space. CBS joins MTV, NBC, Paramount and Warner Bros. as the latest partner to offer content in Samsung’s Media Hub.
Unfortunately the press releases this afternoon did not include pricing or additional release information for other countries. We’re live at the Samsung event as we speak so hopefully we can track down some additional details, but for now you have the latest on the Samsung Galaxy Tab WiFi-only edition.
Coming Q1 2011 | Samsung | TBD
