The WikiLeaks app we wrote about yesterday has been pulled from the Apple App Store after hitting the App Store on 17 December. Why, it hasn’t said, but Apple is typically cagey about controversy, and the app donated $1 (64p) of every sale to the WikiLeaks cause. Developer Igor Barinov received an email telling him his WikiLeaks app had been pulled, but not telling him why. Click through for the full email.

The WikiLeaks app, gave access to the WikiLeaks site, old and new cable updates, and tweets. It was priced at £1.19, but for every £1.19 ($1.99) Igor Barinov donated $1 (64p) to the Wikileaks cause. It also claimed that “because of its intelligent platform, the app will continue to feed content regardless of server disruptions” giving you a mainline into the heart of WikiLeaks.

Apple are in a tight spot here – in pulling the app it’s become a WikiLeaks detractor in the eyes of many, and could make itself the next target for attack. But if Apple had let the app alone, it would be a supporter of WikiLeaks. Apple is in a rock and a hard place, and the fact it ever made it into the App Store is surprising, since Apple is usually so sensitive.

With the worlds disaffected, talented and time ladened youth now turning their attention to Apple it could be time to start knocking on Symantecs door.
