We don’t usually get arty farty here at Electricpig towers, but this time, it involves lasers. As of last night, the Tate Liverpool and FACT (Foundation for Art and Creative Technology) art galleries were connected by a giant green glowing laser beam. The laser beam travels 800 metres as the crow flies, as part of the exhibition by new media artist Nam June Paik and to mark the 50th anniversary of the laser.
The laser beam connection is the design of artist Peter Appleton, who was behind the laser which joined the Anglican and Metropolitan cathedrals in Liverpool during 2008 Capital of Culture, called the Hope Street Project (second image in the gallery). This new work is called Laser Link, a commission from FACT gallery, which references Nam June Paik’s innovative laser works.
Where would you like to link with laser beams?
