Android Honeycomb, the Android 3.0 we’ve been expecting after Christmas, could in fact be 2.4, potentially pushing back the release of the 3.0 to later in the year. As it stands, Android Honeycomb still looks like it’s the first Android build for tablets, but that the Android 3.0 tag is being saved “for something big”.

Android Gingerbread was thought to be Android 3.0 until a developer tweeted otherwise not so long back, and now it looks like there could be yet another version of Android in between us and Android 3.0, that will arrive in February next year.

The rumour comes courtesy of AndroidandMe, who says: “The source is a developer working on 3rd party software for different versions of Android. They wish to remain anonymous, but I can say they have provided me accurate information in the past and I consider them trustworthy.”

After Honeycomb, we’re expecting releases called Ice Cream and Jellybean, and according to the rumourmill, it’s one of these that could be taking on Android 3.0.

What do you think? Will there be and Android 2.4 or is Honeycomb the real Android 3.0?
