Hurrah! Voice DJ brings voice control to iTunes on your iPhone or iPod touch in a way that still has our head spinning a little. While Android owners are familiar with voice control throughout the device, iOS voice smarts are still a little limited. Voice DJ turns iTunes on your mobile device into your robotic servant and we’ve been putting it through its paces with some pretty impressive results. Read on to find out what Voice DJ will do for iTunes on your iPhone…

Voice DJ uses natural language commands to let you select songs, playlists and artists from the iTunes library on your iPhone or iPod touch. After the app has indexed your iTunes library, you can simply put the phone up to your ear or press the button to speak to Voice DJ (with an iPod touch you’ll need headphones with an inline mic).

Voice DJ for iPhone and iPod touch has a long list of supported voice commands which work as full sentences for instance say “I want to hear The Smiths” and Voice DJ will grab an iTunes playlist of Morrissey’s most moaney compositions. You can also play, pause, stop and skip between tracks with voice commands.
The Voice DJ app is free to try but if you want more than 10 uses a day, there’s an in-app purchase for £1.19 which unlocks infinite voice demands. While not always utterly accurate with our British accent and its eccentricities, Voice DJ is pretty damn impressive.

We’d expect Apple to introduce built-in smarts like this to iTunes soon. It snaffled up Siri last year to do just this kind of natural language magic.

Grab Voice DJ for yourself and let us know what you make of it.
