Rumours that the Sony PS3 will be getting ITV Player and 4oD this week are true. We’ve confirmed the news with Sony, and are chasing them for more details as we speak, but in the meantime, fire up your boxes and keep your ears to the ground for incoming content on your PS3 from ITV Player and 4oD.

The Guardian reported the story earlier today and we’re waiting on extra information from Sony. Robin Pembroke, managing director at ITV.com, said the PS3 deal marked an “acceleration of distribution strategy”, and Channel 4′s Sarah Rose said the PS3 deal was the first time a a games console had been ready to take on Channel 4′s content. She said making 4oD content available on the PS3 “sits well with our 16 to 34-year-old audience strengths”.

Love it. I use the PS3 to watch TV in the bedroom… This means theres no reason for me to have an aerial fitted there now, since I watch very little live TV

I already recommend my friends who are moving out for the first time get a PS3 as their one size fits all set top box. Now it's going to get even better.

I'd like Sky player as well for when I forget to record stuff on sky+!

It'll be interesting to see whether this one materialises. Microsoft may have Xbox exclusivity sewn up for a while.
