If someone would make a product like this that's “platform-agnostic” (read: would work with my Nokia N8), and acts well as a wristwatch, and it would have my active interest… wonder how easily it could be “hacked” to work with Symbian^3 devices?

    • James Holland

That's a question for Sony Ericsson… but since they've backed away from Symbian now, I wouldn't hold my breath. Android fans, meanwhile, rejoice!

  • Confused

Why have a bunch of articles about Sony live view just turned up in my RSS reader with a time of 9.01am they were not there this morning ?

looks pretty decent for what it is. Must absolutely hammer the battery life on the phone though? Whats the battery life of the Liveview? and does it automatically re-establish a connection if it's moved out of range of the handset?

    • James Holland

Hey Rick – yep! It'll re-establish a connection if you move away then come back into range. It typically takes around 4 or 5 seconds to sync up again, but if it's in range it comes to life instantly, no lag time at all!

As for battery life, I can't say I noticed a massive impact on the X10 we used it with, and the LiveView battery itself (even with lots of usage, showing it to people, filming etc) has lasted the best part of three days. In normal use, I'd expect that to top a week between charges.

I got a Sony Liveview a couple of weeks ago and my phone is an HTC Desire Z running Froyo. The Liveview software freezes the phone consistently and the Liveview loses connection to the phone after about 15mins and both need rebooting to get the connection going again. A very disappointing product which is going back this weekend.

So is this for people who can't be arsed to pull out their already tiny phones to check for news? In soon time there'll be a Live View for the Live View, so you don't have to even look at your Live View to see what's up!

My friend AngryJoe – it may become a “Cat in the Hat” sensation.
