Hard keys as well as touch sensitivity
Ready for life on the move, the Sony Ericsson LiveView has hard keys to unlock and select its functions. The space surrounding the screen is touch sensitive, but even if you’re wearing gloves those hard keys mean you can silence your phone’s ringer, play and pause music, and see the latest event to trigger an alert. If you receive a call, you can also see who’s ringing you.

Open to new apps
The Sony Ericsson LiveView doesn’t just work with the standard functions of your phone. App developers are able to code for it too. Install SportyPal Pro on your phone, and LiveView becomes a wrist-worn training companion, serving up stats relayed form the mobile app. Add Weather Plugin, and you’ll get at a glance guidance on whether to grab an umbrella. The possibilities for LiveView functions are endless, see some of them in our video.

It talks to your phone too
Most LiveView functions see it receiving information from your phone: missed calls, new texts, social networking updates, that sort of thing. But tap into Find Phone and the LiveView micro display will send a message to your mobile, making it bleep so you can find it easily. Handy, if you’ve let it slip down the back of a sofa, or forgotten which jacket pocket it’s in! See Find Phone in action.

Live data from your mobile
Lots of mobile phones have remote controls for music playback, but how many of them actually tell you what’s playing, as well as letting you control it? Sony Ericsson LiveView shows you exactly what your phone’s doing at any given time, letting you play and pause, skip tracks and alter the volume. It’s like having a window into your phone’s inner workings.

It’ll work with several manufacturers’ Android phones
Perhaps the Sony Ericsson LiveView’s most surprising innovation is its ability to work with other manufacturers’ hardware. LiveView isn’t sniffy about only working with Sony Ericsson phones, it’ll play nicely with the Google Nexus One, the Samsung Galaxy S, HTC Desire, Desire Z and Wildfire as well as the Motorola Milestone.

But you haven't mentioned if its any good! this just looked like a sales pitch rather than a review.

    • James Holland

Hey Lloyd – it's not a review! If it was, you'd see a star rating, and the word Review somewhere too! If you've got any questions though, shout up and I'll try to answer 'em!

do you have to have your phone near by to use this? if not, sounds great. if you do, then the product is completely meaningless..
