Apple MobileMe is quite the neglected child. Sure Apple perked up the email and calendar interfaces recently but since Find My iPhone went free, subscribers have been wondering what the annual subscription actually buys them. One MobileMe customer sent Steve Jobs an email and in typical Jobbsian fashion, a succinct reply swiftly followed. Read on to see what Steve Jobs has to say about Apple MobileMe 2011. Warning: it is brief…

The unnamed MacRumors reader told Steve Jobs: “…MobileMe [has] unreliable/unpredictable syncing, creates duplicate entries…it’s almost unusable…please tell me it will get better, and soon? (sic)” The reply from the Cupertino Cave of Mr Steven Jobs? “Yes, it will get a lot better in 2011.”

What does that mean? Hard to tell. Could Apple’s huge data centre be finally ready to go operational and rather than being used to power Steve’s Deathstar-style planet killing ray instead be used to power up MobileMe 2011? That seems likely. As does the idea that MobileMe may become a central part of a Mac/iPhone/iPad/iTunes in the cloud eco-system to slap Android around the chops.

If Mobile Me could sync files like DropBox does I'd be in heaven. Living in a country (Australia) where the only thing slower than our broadband network is a snail in a headwind, Mobile Me is basically useless. DropBox is perfect for crappy broadband. Surely if calendars and email can be sync'd this way, files can too?
