We heard the BBC iPlayer US version is launching in 2011 but now a report says that Auntie is aiming to launch a subscription on-demand service for iPad as its first foray into the American market beyond BBC America. Those well-informed folk at the FT claim a BBC iPlayer US iPad subscription service will launch in “the middle of next year” but “only in certain target markets”. Pricing isn’t really discussed but the loose-lipped BBC sources say there’ll be ad-supported stuff as well as paid for shows.

Sounds like an ace idea but we’re hoping there’ll be some way for licence payers on their travels and rocking their iPad to tap into the BBC iPlayer US iPad subscription service for free. After all, we’ve already paid once!
