DetailedProgrammeInfo

Virgin Media TiVo will be rolling out from mid-December, meaning that you’ll be able to slob in front of every single bit of Christmas TV you’ve got time for, and not miss a thing when you heave yourself out of the sofa to get more port and turkey sandwiches.

Virgin Media TiVo combines the live TV schedule with catch up TV, and the TiVo set top box will mean you can play, record and skip back to watch shows you’ve missed. It’s powered by the Virgin network, and Virgin Media TV with TiVo uses dedicated channels of bandwidth, it’s not going to suck up your connection speeds either.

There’s a recommendations channel that learns from what you watch and ratings you input, and there’s a dedicated app store, with iPlayer, YouTube, plus eBay, Twitter and more.

In total, Virgin Media TiVo brings 4,600 hours of on demand content. The set top box that houses TiVo also has 1TB of storage, which translates to 500 hours of standard definition TV.

This isn’t going to be the only Virgin Media TiVo service Virgin will offer either. Cindy Rose, executive director of digital entertainment at Virgin Media, said: “We’re really excited to bring our customers what is just the first of successive generations of transformational services based on this unique TiVo-powered platform.”

It’s early days for TiVo in the UK yet, and it’s crammed with a full raft of features and functionality. Accordingly, the big downside is the price. Virgin Media TiVo doesn’t come cheap, and the service will cost a one off fee of £40, plus a standard price of £199. If you want to pimp out your Virgin Media TiVo package, then you can add the XL service for £32.50 per month, or £26.50 per month if you’re already a Virgin customer.
