The iPhone jailbreak could well be an endangered species. GSMA has announced a task force to explore the development of embedded SIM cards that can be remotely activated, a move that follows recent speculation that Apple is beavering away on similar tech. That could mean a new generation of cameras, MP3 players, sat-nav and ebook readers with SIM cards baked in but more importantly it could sound the death knell for the iPhone jailbreak…

This Kinect hack may well be the best yet: the Personal Robots Group at MIT have taken a battery-powered Kinect and grafted it on to an iRobot Create (the hackable platform from the makers of Roomba and PackRobot). The Kinect helps create a 3D map to help the robot navigate. They’re also planning on giving the Kinect iRobot the ability to identify humans using Kinect smarts.
