Sites we like: Cake Riot! Akira The Don! Beatles + ukulele!

November 26th, 2010

Friday is official cheekily-look-at-website-instead-of-working day and we as ever are here to help you. Today’s Sites We Like is a cracker. We’ve got the iPhone dictionary going loopy, Akira The Don taking MySpace out to the woodshed with an axe and evil intent, a grass roots protest campaign with cake and The Beatles…on ukulele. Read on for all that linky goodness…

Damn You Auto Correct
It was Twitter’s favourite site this week and we agree – offensive and surreal mistakes brought about by iPhone predictive text. Want to guess which member of Electricpig staff said they were going to “fornicate” rather “Vodafone”. Damn you auto correct! And no, it wasn’t Mic.

Akira The Don
We love Akira The Don. Not just for his Streetfighter Mix or his takedown of MySpace but for his constant stream of clever, witty and downright wicked hip hop. Akira The Don is the gadget fan’s choice of rappers, knowing and self-aware in a way that Kanye West would need 40 years of therapy to achieve.

Cake Riot
Confession: Electricpig writer Mic Wright created Cake Riot. It’s a day of cake-based protests on December 5. So far there’s events in London, Swansea, Dublin, Glasgow, Leeds, Manchester and New York. The aim of the event is to swap a cake with a stranger and show that protest can be fun. It’s already been picked up by people like TV Burp writer David Quantick, Times writer and Twitter don Caitlin Moran and ace artist dude David Shrigley.

Sharenator Web Empires
This tool analyses the web traffic of whatever site you search for and tells you cool stats like how big it would be if it were a  country and how many stadiums you’d need to have a get together of all the visitors at once. We’re glad to announce that Electricpig is bigger than Samoa and that we’d need two whole stadiums to pack all you lovely Electricpig fans in for a knees up. We’re currently on to Wembley but the hire fee seems a bit steep.

The Beatles Complete On Ukulele
The Beatles iTunes deal is obviously a big deal but their entire catalogue is being rendered on ukulele at this site. That’s just awesome and what’s more, you can grab the songs for free. You’d better strap on your ukulele if you want to entice us to pay up for iTunes Beatles downloads.
